Vitamin D Sources

Vitamin D is very essential for our health. Research suggests it may have other benefits as well, giving your body the strength to fight off colds and depression. Therefore, it is necessary to get enough vitamin D. Here, are the sources of Vitamin D to ensure you get enough amount, which will be of great benefit to you: –

1. Sunlight: –

Sunlight prompts the body to make vitamin D. “If you’re going to get it from the sun, about 20 to 25 minutes of exposure is useful,” said Stephen Honig, MD, director of the Hospital’s Osteoporosis Center for Joint Disease in New York City.

2. Mushroom: –

Like humans, mushrooms also tend to produce vitamin D when exposed to ultraviolet light. However, Mushrooms are usually grown in dark places as a result of which they lack vitamins. Specific brands, however, grow mushrooms in ultraviolet light to increase vitamin D production.

3. Orange Juice: –

Not a dairy fan? No problem. You can even get vitamin D from the fortified orange juice. An 8-ounce glass of fortified juice typically contains about 100 IUs of vitamin D. Two fortified brands, Florida Naturals Orange Juice and Minimal May Kids + Orange Juice, contain 100 IUs per 8-ounce serving.

4. Pasteurized Milk: –

In general, an 8-ounce glass contains at least 100 IUs of vitamin D, and a 6-ounce serving of yogurt contains 80 IUs. Some soy and rice milk are also fortified with the same amount, but check the label because not all contain vitamin D.

5. 5. Fatty fish: –

If we talk about some good sources of vitamin D, fatty fish is one of them. Common choices include salmon, trout, mackerel, tuna, and eel and you also get omega-3 fatty acids in them. A 3-ounce sockeye salmon fillet contains vitamin D nearly about 450 IUs.
